A Graceful Pivot
May 30th, what a day! A family backyard in Blue Earth, MN was the perfect location for a small wedding ceremony and reception – and it all came together in about a month!
The story of many 2020 weddings is similar: bride and groom plan summer wedding, then have to either downsize their day, find a new venue, or put their guests in a tricky position. There seems to be no right answers, but Jordan and Amanda found a really lovely way to adjust to the chaotic circumstances.
Their original wedding date was July 11, 2020 in Mora, MN. They had all of their details ready to go, save a few things like floral and decor, when Covid-19 made it’s appearance. Through conversations with their venue, they decided to get married on May 30, 2020 with a very small group of people. They will celebrate with their big planned party on May 30, 2021 at their originally chosen venue with all of their guests. An excellent plan, I think – two very special days to remember, but one anniversary to celebrate!
The Wedding Day
As a bridesmaid, my duties looked a little different than anticipated – but I loved it! In the morning, I did Amanda’s makeup and her sister Jackie did her hair (Natalie provided back rubs, as you can see, and painted Amanda’s toes and nails as everything else was happening!) Mariah and Alissa were doing major logistical work that morning, making sure everything (and everyone) was where it needed to be! Kind of a dream bridesmaid team, if I do say so myself!
Once Amanda was dressed and ready to go, I roped Natalie into second shooting for me with about 2 minutes notice, and she was a major help to me throughout the rest of the day – thanks Nat! Couldn’t have done it without you!
The ceremony itself was beautiful and full of joy, and it was so sweet to be with such a small group of family and friends. After Jordan and Amanda said “I do!” they did their first dance as extended friends and family watched via Zoom and livestreams. Natalie and I snuck the new Mr. and Mrs. away for photos on the property, and returned to a beautiful charcuterie layout! A few short toasts later, we were all happily seated at two picnic tables munching and mingling. Slightly sunburnt and very happy, the bridesmaids and I packed up shortly afterwards for the trek back to the cities.
Jordan and Amanda, though it wasn’t the day you expected, it was undeniably sweet. Thanks for trusting me to show up for you in more ways than one, it was absolutely an honor. As for next year…I’m already ready to hit that dance floor hard. Until then, here are a few photos to tell the story of the day!
